Our ECO Certification and Sustainability Commitment

Wilderness Escape Outdoor Adventures is proud to hold ECO Certification in the Nature Tourism category.

This certification recognises our commitment to responsible outdoor education, nature-based experiences and sustainable business practices. It also gives our schools, families, partners and participants confidence that our programs are delivered with care for people, places and the natural environments we use.

Our programs take children and young people into some of South Australia’s most unique outdoor settings, including beaches, waterways, bushland, conservation areas, trails and campsites. These places are central to what we do. They are also living environments that need respect, care and protection.

Our sustainability commitment is practical. We aim to reduce our impact, educate participants, support local communities and help young people build a stronger connection with nature.

Across our programs, we work to:

  • follow Leave No Trace principles
  • minimise waste and reduce unnecessary resource use
  • reuse, repair and maintain equipment where practical
  • support local communities, suppliers and regional areas
  • respect wildlife, waterways, vegetation and cultural sites
  • follow site-specific requirements set by land managers
  • use outdoor experiences to build environmental awareness
  • review and improve our practices over time

Our staff play an important role in this work. Through safety briefings, activity delivery and group management, they help participants understand how to move through natural places with care. This may include staying on tracks, taking rubbish out, protecting waterways, avoiding disturbance to wildlife, respecting cultural values and understanding why small actions matter.

We also recognise that sustainability is broader than the environment. It includes safe operations, inclusive participation, responsible marketing, strong community relationships and respect for the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters where we educate, learn and adventure.

Successful initiatives across our business include ongoing equipment maintenance to extend product life, reuse of program resources where safe and practical, environmental education embedded into outdoor learning, site-specific planning, waste-conscious program delivery and continued review of our systems through our Environmental Management Plan and risk management processes.

We also work with land managers, schools, community groups and industry partners to ensure our activities are suitable for the places we visit. This helps protect access to outdoor locations and supports long-term care for the environments that make our programs possible.

ECO Certification gives us a clear framework to keep improving. It helps us measure what we do, identify gaps and strengthen our commitment to responsible nature-based experiences.

We want every participant to leave with more than a memory. We want them to leave with greater confidence, stronger connections and a deeper respect for the natural world.
