Meet Your OEM: Introducing Marc Breschi

Learn more about the Managers that will be running your camps and day programs with Wilderness Escape’s β€˜Meet Your OEM (Outdoor Education Manager)’ series. Our OEM’s create and run your camp and day programs from A-Z. They are your primary contact at Wilderness Escape and will work with your school on every program and camp we run for you!

Marc has been with Wilderness Escape since 2008 and is one of our top-rated water-sport Outdoor Education Managers. With a Double diploma of tourism and outdoor education, and industry qualifications in bushwalking, kayaking, snorkelling, surfing and challenge ropes, he is a great all rounder for both our Summer and Winter camps and day experiences.

Marc highly values the importance of aligning himself with the values and culture of the schools, staff and students that he works with, to help create a product that meets his clients desired outcomes and learning requirements. As he states

β€œI strive to create real relationships with coordinators and teaching staff I work with, to create a environment where both WEOA and the client staff are working to achieve common goals together”

With such a diverse range of experiences, Marc is the first to admit he could not pick a β€˜favourite memory’. Instead he says that instead he values the moment when he gets to witness students experience something β€˜totally new, that they never thought they would like and find that they love it’.

Although he runs camps in areas all over South Australia, Marc’s favourite camps always involve the water. In his experience Surfing is the clear winner during Summer camps. Students love the entire experience, from learning the skills to just playing in the waves. For Winter, he says it is an even tie between kayaking and bushwalking. Smaller groups tend to be best, as the students have greater interaction with their guides allowing OEMs like Marc to help create and see positive changes throughout their journey.

As one of our longest-term OEM’s Marc has visited a lot of our locations. His top picks are:

  • For Summer: Kangaroo Island. Iconic destination. We get to take people to a place most South Australians haven’t actually seen. It’s remote, has amazing beaches and spectacular wildlife.
  • For Winter. The Flinders Ranges. It’s totally remote and the landscapes are just amazing.

Marc firmly believes that outdoor education creates opportunities for school/college staff and students to share common bonds, especially when overcoming challenges and sharing memorable experiences. He states:

β€œBy venturing into the outdoors and through using outdoor education, school camps provide experiences and opportunities for personal growth that cannot be replicated at school/college or in a classroom setting.”

Wilderness Escape has been running school camps and day programs for almost 30 years. We are extremely proud of our dedicated team of Outdoor Education Managers and trained instructors like Marc, and with such amazing people in our workforce shall continue to provide high quality care to all our schools and kids in the future.
